In conservative Sudan men rarely enter the kitchen. Aesha Ismail Hassan has found that since she has installed her new LPG cookstove both her husband, and son help with cooking.

Afaf Mohamed Ahmed Atroon used to spend around 16 SDG ($2.5 US) a day on wood and charcoal and now spends around 40 SDG ($6.5 US) for ten days’ worth of LPG energy.

Asha Mohamed Abdalkareem Sabeel used to visit the doctor every month because of health difficulties caused by her traditional stove. These doctors’ visits costed her 150 SDG ($25 US). She now no longer needs to see the doctor after joining the microfinance scheme to buy a low smoke cookstove. With the money saved she is supporting her daughter’s studies at university in North Kordufan.
